after return britain settled in london, entered public service, alderman cheap ward in city of london , 1891 until dissolution in 1906 liberal member of parliament paisley. consul general of orange free state until outbreak of second boer war. dunn active chairman of south african section of london chamber of commerce , member of executive council of institution.
dunn created baronet in 1895, becoming sir william dunn of lakenheath, after residence in country. while in london lived @ 34 phillimore gardens, kensington , alternatively @ retreat , lakenheath, suffolk. both , wife buried @ west norwood cemetery. on death in 1912, sir william s estate valued @ 1.3 million pounds. baronetcy became extinct upon death.
