from around 1900 kirkby being engaged sing @ local events in manchester, example soloist in sacred service lifeboat saturday – fund-raising event held @ palace theatre of varieties in 1900. in 1901 @ age of 22 won first prize baritone singer in contest held part of music trades exhibition @ st. james s hall, oxford road in manchester. on easter day 1902 sang trumpet shall sound handel s messiah in saint s church chorlton-on-medlock in manchester.


in 1900s kirkby performed @ number of provincial events, example singing small role in edwardian musical comedy geisha in derby in late 1902, , in july 1903 performed in outdoor concert pierrots @ sydney gardens in bath, somerset – bath chronicle commented: mr. stanley kirkby has capital baritone voice .


kirkby moved london. there in 1908 married singer jessie jolly had been performing him in 1 of concert parties. had 3 sons. 1911 census living in barnes, london wife , first son, , profession given of vocalist. rejected military service in army first world war. died on 30 october 1949, @ barnes residence, aged 70.
