sir john acland, 1st baronet (c. 1591 – 1647), english landowner, son of arthur acland. pricked high sheriff of devon in 1641, fought royalist during english civil war. created baronet service in 1644, letters patent either lost or did not pass seals; new grant made in 1677/8 5th baronet confirming 1644 creation. surrendered parliamentarians when thomas fairfax captured exeter in 1646 , composed estate. upon death in 1647, succeeded eldest son francis.
