at age of two, won great eclipse stakes, futurity stakes, great american stakes, great trial stakes, hyde park stakes, matron stakes , produce stakes.
by now, people called him black whirlwind. time heats no longer dominated horse races in america (they d fallen out of favor in england decades earlier), , speed becoming premium. domino considered fastest sprinter of time.
1894: three-year-old season
in first start @ age 3 in withers stakes, domino defeated belmont stakes champion henry of navarre, , went on win 5 of next 7 races entered including dead heat in match race arch rival henry of navarre. such, met again 3 weeks later in race determine 1894 championship. event, 4-year-old clifford joined 2 younger colts. time, henry of navarre won 3/4 s of length, earning horse of year honors.
at three, besides withers, won flying stakes (carrying 130 pounds , setting new track record), culver stakes, ocean handicap, , third special.
1895: four-year-old season
raced four-year-old, domino won 4 of 8 races: coney island handicap, sheepshead bay handicap, , came in 2nd in coney island fall handicap carrying 133 lb., conceding 24 lb winner.
slightly unsound, , raced in bandages, still, in 25 starts, domino won 19, placed in 2, , came third in one. life career earnings amounted $193,550.
eventually refusing train due bad foot, @ end of 1895 season, retired castleton stud.
