1955-1974: urban districts of cheadle , gatley, hazel grove , bramhall, , marple, , urban district of bredbury , romiley except part of bredbury ward added county borough of stockport stockport (extension) order 1952.


1974-1983: urban districts of cheadle , gatley, , wilmslow.


1983-2010: borough of stockport wards of cheadle, cheadle hulme north, cheadle hulme south, east bramhall, heald green, , west bramhall.


2010-present: borough of stockport wards of bramhall north, bramhall south, cheadle , gatley, cheadle hulme north, cheadle hulme south, heald green, , stepping hill.


when created in 1950, cheadle county constituency , area predominantly urban in south-eastern suburbs of manchester conurbation, , relatively affluent.


the growth of suburbs of manchester led rapidly rising electorate late 1950s , 1970 election there 107,225 electors , reduction inevitable. @ february 1974 general election seat re-classified borough constituency , split in two, eastern parts forming new hazel grove constituency.


as result of changes county boundaries, constituency crossed between greater manchester , cheshire. realigning county boundaries in 1983, constituency redrawn, losing wilmslow tatton , smaller parts macclesfield , stockport.
