soon after first demo, tognola left band replaced simon saxby new singer , later in year mark allison second guitarist. new line-up, salem released double a-side single, cold steel / reach eternity , recorded again @ fairview on 4 april 1982; considered 1 of notable recordings fairview. following interview macnamara in may 1982 kerrang! (no. 15), single appeared in local chart section of magazine , singles sold globally. according nwobhm encyclopaedia, single now, highly collectable , valuable rarity , , listed in record collector s rare record price guide .


salem continued new drummer paul mendham perform in north , north east of england , recorded demo in september 1982, @ adda studios in east hull. result of winning battle of bands competition @ huddersfield polytechnic, salem recorded final demo @ september sound, huddersfield, in march 1983.


salem played final gig on 31 may 1983, when members left follow different projects.
