overton has number of athletic programs. currently, there baseball, boys , girls basketball, bowling, cheerleading, cross country, football, golf, boys , girls soccer, softball, tennis, track, volleyball, , wrestling team.

the clubs , organizations offered consist of band, beta club, business professionals of america, cheerleading, choir, drama, fccla (family, career & community leaders of america), fellowship of christian athletes, forensics (speech , debate), guitar, interact club, national honor society, overtour (yearbook), orbit (newspaper), orchestra, piano, student council, students taking right stand (stars), vex robotics team (vex robotics competition), , tsa (technology student association).

band

the awesome john overton band won 2008 state championship

overton known in state marching band. band won tennessee governor s cup 6 times, in 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1992, , 2008. @ annual contest of champions competition in murfreesboro, band had been finalist 26 consecutive years (1981–2006). in addition, have made numerous appearances in finals of various bands of america regional competitions. band has performed in macy s thanksgiving day parade (1990), tournament of roses parade (1987), fiesta bowl parade (1984 , 1992), , selected commemorate 60th , 65th anniversaries of bombing of pearl harbor, hawaii in 2001 , 2006. school has 3 wgi world championships, beginning when winter guard won 1994 scholastic world champions , 1995 scholastic open world champions while winter drumline won 1996 scholastic marching percussion aa world championship. overton honored grammy foundation 1999 grammy signature school gold school. overton awarded john philip sousa foundation sudler shield outstanding marching band twice.

orchestra

john overton had share of talent in orchestra well. keller phillips made all-state orchestra in 2011, making him first orchestra student in years.

wrestling

during 1995–1998 time frame, bobcat wrestlers won state s traditional state tournament twice (1996 , 1997) , finished in top 6 twice (sixth in 1995 , second in 1998). moreover, wrestling team won tennessee state dual title in 1997 undefeated dual record of 29-0. finished in top 4 in each of years in dual tournament having placed fourth in 1995, third in 1996, champion in 1997, , third in 1998.

during time, overton wrestlers had many individual state champions , all-americans such university of nebraska recruit, charles mctorry, eric , derrick jordan, sacred heart university s head coach casey brewster, timothy drinkwine, robby lee, william hadden, , others. many of these overton graduates have gone on pursue collegiate wrestling , coaching.

throughout last fifteen years, wrestling team has been coached ralph gabriel, has taken team many national tournaments such open in broken arrow, oklahoma, virginia duals in hampton virginia, tournament of champions in reno, nevada. other tournaments attended in new orleans, central square, new york, herndon, virginia; , chattanooga, tennessee.

football

nick coutras stadium

the football team won tennessee state championship in 1981 record of 14-0, under leadership of coach nick coutras. stadium, visible interstate 65, named after coach coutras, had 145-36 record in sixteen years @ overton. recent success in 2003 when football team advanced quarterfinals of state playoffs before losing nearby rival , eventual champion hillsboro high school.

baseball

bobcat baseball has 1 of state s longest winning streaks @ 40 baseball games, en route tennessee state finals game in lost houston high school out of memphis in 2005. baseball team has experienced greater success, having won tennessee state baseball championship game in 1971 , 1988. goodpasture vs. overton game 1998 holds state s record longest game in terms of innings, @ 15.

the basketball team experienced greatest success in 1990s players such georgia state university recruit chris gentry, university of tennessee recruit , starting point guard brandon wharton, university of maryland recruit brian watkins , other players recruited local colleges , universities. basketball team finished 2nd in state tournament in 1994 losing state powerhouse, science hill high school.
