Equipment Hiawatha Service







as of 2017, usual hiawatha train set consists of 1 ge genesis or siemens sc-44 locomotive on northward end, emd f40ph cabbage car on southward end, , 6 coaches, consisting of 4 horizon fleet coaches , amfleet coach on each end serve quiet cars. since 2008, cabbage car 90230, wearing colors of cascades service in pacific northwest, has seen use on hiawatha.


on july 17, 2009, state of wisconsin announced purchase 2 new train sets spanish manufacturer talgo in preparation enhanced-speed service received funding in 2010. governor scott walker rejected federal funding , cancelled project. talgo opened manufacturing plant in milwaukee, wisconsin construct trainsets hiawatha service, , company hoped plant build trains future high-speed lines in region. 2 sets built stored in former talgo plant until may 2014, when amtrak moved them maintenance facility near indianapolis, indiana. remain stored there pending possible use on other amtrak routes.


the unpowered tilting trainsets 14 cars long including cab car, eleven coaches (five of have restrooms), 1 bistro car, , 1 end car including bicycle rack. cars wear red-and-white livery in homage university of wisconsin. have been trains pulled same ge genesis locomotives used today, have top speed of 110 mph.
