history

he began karting @ age 12 in 1996 , moved through ranks, becoming part of honda s formula dream project. moved europe in 1998 compete in formula vauxhall. moved on formula ford european championship , competed in formula ford festival, finishing seventh in 2000 , third in 2001. moved asia compete in asian formula 2000 , formula dream, finished second in rookie season. won formula dream championship in second year in 2002. mutoh moved japan formula 3, finishing 9th , third in 2 seasons there. in 2006, drove in formula nippon , super gt 500–class.


2007

in 2007, autobacs racing team aguri (arta) announced mutoh had been signed drive new entry in indy pro series in car prepared panther racing, had last competed in ips in 2003, winning championship driver mark taylor. mutoh captured first win in liberty challenge race 1 @ indianapolis motor speedway road course on united states grand prix weekend.


on september 9, mutoh made indy racing league indycar series debut panther racing @ chicagoland speedway in peak antifreeze indy 300 in one-off entry #60 car, sponsored formula dream project. mutoh finished 8th , clocked fastest lap of race. on october 31, 2007 announced mutoh replace 2007 indycar series champion dario franchitti @ andretti green racing in team s full-time #27 indycar 2008.

2008

mutoh @ indianapolis motor speedway in 2009.


mutoh made debut andretti green racing @ homestead-miami speedway in march , in may highest qualifying rookie 2008 indianapolis 500. finished 7th in race, second best finishing position japanese driver in history of race.


mutoh scored best finish of indycar series career in june @ iowa speedway, finishing second dan wheldon, setting new mark best indycar finish japanese driver, surpassing 3rd place of tora takagi @ texas motor speedway in 2003. failed finish higher 6th in remainder of season, beat transitional driver justin wilson rookie of year title , 10th place overall in series.


2010

mutoh announced participate in 2010 season newman/haas racing on official website.


2011

mutoh has been announced aguri suzuki honda driver in super gt series in japan 2011, alongside takashi kobayashi.


on september 1, mutoh confirmed part of 2011 indy japan: final race @ motegi drive no. 17 sam schmidt motorsports/afs racing. mutoh finished 19th on lead lap.
