Windsor Colliery Abertridwr, Caerphilly
in 1895 windsor colliery company started sink 2 shafts depth of around 2018 feet (615 m). first coal raised in 1902, workings connected underground universal colliery in senghenydd ventilation purposes.
on 1 june 1902, platform collapsed in mine, tipping 9 men 25 feet (8 m) of water, had gathered in sump. 3 escaped drowning clinging onto floating debris, other 6 died.
the colliery nationalised, , run national coal board 1946. during 1976, became linked underground nantgarw colliery, , both collieries worked 1 unit, coal winding (i.e. raising surface) , processing via nantgarw. 1976, production concentrated @ nantgarw, windsor kept open ventilation, methane extraction, , emergency exit.
the whole nantgarw/windsor unit closed on 6 november 1986. tyn y parc (welsh: house in park) housing estate occupies site.
