early life , family

yolandita monge, born yolanda rosa monge betancourt in trujillo alto, puerto rico on september 16, 1955, daughter of iris delia betancourt , héctor monge. lived first 7 years of life in new york city , came puerto rico. during 70s, met alfredo lorenzo, in new york, , married him on november 13, 1975. had daughter, noelia, marriage ended afterwards. in 1983, married venezuelan singer balbino, whom met in buga, colombia, , father of second daughter paola gonzález. few years later, couple filed divorce. on december 31, 1989, yolandita married manager carlos topy mamery , in 1991 gave birth son imanol mamery.

early career

monge started out winning radio contest in 1966 (at age of eleven). discovered producer julio alers. later on, made tv debut on luis vigoreaux s show, luis vigoreaux presenta. had regular section in show. in 1968, signed record label patty records, released first album, named puerto rico s poignant... powerful... incomparable....

on december 3, 2014, husband , manager of more twenty years, carlos topy mamery, died of massive heart attack. funeral held on december 5, 2014 alongside hundreds of fans, friends , family members. after tragedy, yolandita retired public view following months of 2015.
