human impact
habitat destruction

due recent decades of agricultural intensification in europe, natural habitat of b. muscorum has been largely diminished. many of permanent flower-rich areas bee commonly forages have been destroyed increased commercial farming. b. muscorum has poor dispersal ability compared other species of bumblebee, making more vulnerable habitat loss. result, populations have decreased dramatically in recent decades.

status

b. muscorum listed vulnerable in europe iucn. populations diminishing in britain , species in species recovery program. decreasing populations evident in multiple european countries. estonia lists species vulnerable. germany , netherlands consider species endangered.

sea walls

b. muscorum found on sea wall flood defenses managed environment agency. nests can found on flat grassy area between sea , borrowdyke, brackish pond behind sea wall. grasslands on sea walls predominantly unimproved, have become important habitat rare insect species such b. muscorum. current research examining how these sea walls can maintained preserve rare populations.
