the soloheadbeg ambush, said first engagement of irish war of independence, took place here on 21 january 1919. event commemorated monument @ solohead cross, 1.5 km northwest of limerick junction railway station, ceremony of remembrance held each year on anniversary of ambush, led séamus robinson, seán treacy, dan breen , seán hogan of third tipperary brigade.
