career
early beginnings

his musical career began bachelor s degree honours university of winnipeg in 1986. roberts began performing in house band blue note cafe in winnipeg under moniker bad brad roberts , st. james rhythm pigs. band gradually evolved crash test dummies. while studying @ university , working bartender @ spectrum cabaret, roberts began writing own songs , introducing them band. after attending songwriters workshop lyle lovett @ winnipeg folk festival, wrote superman s song .


record deal , debut album

demos of roberts s songs found in hands of various music company execs across canada, , quirky bar band had begun write original material found record deal options led crash test dummies rushed, nevertheless well-received debut album, ghosts haunt me. album introduced band rest of canadian provinces, selling on 400,000 copies in canada alone , garnering 1991 juno award group of year.


second album , international success

with more time , finances, roberts set writing band s second album, god shuffled feet. date band s best selling , popular album, taking them international arena of musical exposure. album has sold on 6 million copies , caused crash test dummies nominated 3 grammy awards in 1994. group nominated eleven other junos 1992 2000.


third album: worm s life

a worm s life released in 1996, selling on 1 million copies , showcasing harder-edged sound band continued evolve, producing album on own.


fourth album: give hand

1999 introduced mix of electronic funk , spontaneous wordplay give hand. roberts met greg wells @ songwriters workshop , invited him co-write , assist in recording album inspired influences , flavours of roberts new home in harlem, new york.


car accident , independent release

on september 28, 2000, roberts severely injured when crashed car on dirt road in yarmouth county, nova scotia. marijuana discovered in pocket while loaded ambulance , charged possession rcmp. while recuperating accident, began jamming locals (the great wind jammers argyle, yarmouth county) , produced these sessions don t care don t mind. first album released band independent of major record label.


sixth album: puss n boots

puss n boots released in october 2003 european , additional american version.


further releases

a new crash test dummies album, oooh la la!, released in 2010. followed solo release on album of mantras, entitled rajanaka: mantra, in 2011.
