economic forecasts 2010 show craven district s diverse economy, measured in gross value added (gva), worth £1.14 billion ($1.87 billion) since 1998 value of district’s economy has grown 45%. craven hosts variety of small businesses - 72% employ less 4 people. businesses employ above 50 employees (2.2%) in south of district.



the visitor economy sector has largest number of businesses.
the banking, finance , insurance sector has experienced significant growth since 2003 through skipton building society group.
agriculture , land-based industries form significant part of district’s economy, particularly within remoter areas.

dairy: traditionally craven milk sold cheese. north yorkshire in 2008 had 649 holdings 71,518 dairy cows aged on 2 years. average annual milk yield 7,406 litres/cow. wholesale production of milk of north yorkshire 2009/10 488,894,588 litres.

in 2008 there 26,591 employed; 22% self-employed. in 2010 each full time equivalent (fte) employee contributed £40,311 district’s economy, representing increase in productivity of 21.9% since 1998; annual increase of 1.8%. value of output per capita (estimated £19,703) has increased 32% since 1998.
