the tightly woven ensemble of historic buildings , houses in old town (altstadt) half-timbered houses , stone buildings romanesque (wetzlar cathedral) gothic renaissance , baroque great extent in late 18th century, preserved , extensively restored. great squares of buttermarkt/domplatz ( butter market/cathedral square ), fischmarkt ( fish market ), eisenmarkt ( iron market ), kornmarkt ( grain market ), , former franziskanerhof ( franciscan yard ), called schillerplatz. 50 noteworthy buildings, few listed here:
