the catastrophic storm of entire outbreak cultivated on northern louisiana during late morning hours of april 24. tornado became strong immediately, bending , destroying several high-tension power poles west of tallulah. tornado crossed interstate 20, blowing 18-wheeler off road. tornado passed northwest , north of tallulah, heavily damaged or destroyed number of homes. before crossing mississippi river, caused near total destruction of chemical plant near omega community. crossed mississippi river shortly thereafter, , damaged or destroyed numerous homes on north side of eagle lake. tornado moved across delta national forest in issaquena , sharkey counties, causing major tree damage. tornado again caused significant home damage northwest of satartia, , again crossed highway 3 near crupp community. tornado moved through rural areas southwest of yazoo city, causing major damage or total destruction of number of homes, intense tree damage. tornado approached intersection of u.s. route 49 , highway 16 on south side of yazoo city, reached widest point , maximum intensity. several buildings, including church , several businesses, totally destroyed or flattened. tornado continued moving through residential areas on southeast side of yazoo city, heavily damaging or destroying numerous homes. tornado continued northeast through rural eastern yazoo , southern holmes counties, causing intense tree damage , damaging or destroying number of rural residences. tornado moved franklin community in rural holmes county, again reached ef4 intensity destroyed 2 brick homes , heavily damaged or destroyed number of other homes.

the tornado crossed interstate 55, causing significant tree damage , blowing number of vehicles off road. tornado approached area south of durant , crossed u.s. route 51, narrowed , reached 1 of weaker points in track, still on ground. however, shortly thereafter re-intensified , began causing significant tree damage in rural western attala county. tornado continued across northern attala county, causing tree damage , heavily damaging number of rural residences, including in community of hesterville. tornado intensified further crossed natchez trace parkway, , once again produced high-end ef3 damage passed northwest of weir. numerous homes heavily damaged or destroyed in area. tornado maintained strong intensity crossed remainder of choctaw county, including damaging number of homes cross highways 415, 9 , highways 15. tornado rapidly narrowed , weakened crossed oktibbeha county, , dissipated north of town of sturgis after being on ground 3 hours.


the tornado tracked 149.25 miles (240.19 km), making fourth longest in mississippi history. tornado 1.75 miles (2.82 km) wide @ widest point, making widest tornado ever tear through mississippi. ten fatalities , 146 injuries made mississippi s ninth deadliest tornado since 1900. tornado rated ef4, producing severe damage in yazoo , holmes counties. tornado s wind speed peaked @ 170 miles per hour (270 km/h). state s worst natural disaster since hurricane katrina in 2005.
