the major tourist activities in village , surrounding area skiing , other snow sports in winter season, , hiking , mountain activities during summer.


in village main sights benedictine monastery engelberg abbey incorporates cheese factory , demonstration shop, talmuseum showing history of area , swiss rural life, , number of old chapels.


the winter sports season lasts december until april, although high altitude glacier areas on titlis can used (by advanced skiers) october until may. snow coverage reliable, although in recent years artificial snow machines have been installed on of lower altitude runs in order improve snow cover.

the titlis in south of engelberg @ 3,238 metres (10,623 ft) above sea level highest summit of range north of susten pass, between bernese oberland , central switzerland.


the titlis mountain massif accessible cable cars of titlis bergahnen. cable car bottom station central terminus of village bus services. funicular railway (dating 1913) runs station gerschnialp (1,267 m (4,157 ft)) , wide alpine pasture called gerschni, easy snow areas suitable beginners , cross country ski trails, , toboggan run leading down valley station. in summer there 2 cheese dairies, walking trails leading ober trüebsee , down village, or level trails leading unter trüebsee west.


the titlis xpress gondola lift, opened in 2015 replace older 1 dating 1970s, runs valley station (996 m (3,268 ft)) middle station trübsee (1,788 m (5,866 ft)) , on stand (2,428 m (7,966 ft)). area provides more challenging skiing, on lower slopes of titlis , via further chair lifts jochpass (2,207 m (7,241 ft)) , below jochstock @ 2,508 m (8,228 ft). continuous ski piste leads down unter trüebsee , cable car valley station. in summer lake popular walking area, rowing boats available on lake , picnic places around it. walking routes lead on jochpass engstlenalp , melchsee-frutt, or directly engleberg on juchli pass (2,171 m (7,123 ft)) or storegg pass (1,742 m (5,715 ft))) melchtal.


the rotair cable car ( world s first rotating cable car ) runs kleintitlis mountain station (3,028 m (9,934 ft)) there restaurant , shops, observation terrace , access glacier , summit. high altitude glacier runs down peak suitable advanced skiers, off-piste routes leading down trübsee , laubersgrat ridge.


brunni

the brunni mountain area, north of village, accessible cable car station runs ristis (1,600 m (5,200 ft)), further chair lift brunnihütte (1,860 m (6,100 ft)). ski runs here of beginner medium standard, although not having snow cover titlis side due south facing aspect. there toboggan run brunnihütte down ristis. in summer there number of walking trails starting here, including walenpfad leading bannalp , rot grätli ridge across mountains north , northeast. there number of prepared rock climbing routes (german: klettersteig).


fürenalp

at eastern end of engelberg valley, there cable car fürenalp (1,840 m (6,040 ft)), passing on fürenwand rock climbing area. top station or valley, summer walking routes views of chli spannort (3,140 m (10,300 ft)) , gross spannort (3,198 m (10,492 ft)) mountain peaks lead surenenpass (2,291 m (7,516 ft)) in east.
