history
early years , sevendust (1994–1998)

bassist vince hornsby joined drummer morgan rose in 1994 in band called snake nation. john connolly, drummer, left band , joined snake nation guitarist. recorded first demo. not happy vocals, however, snake nation spent year searching new singer before finding lajon witherspoon. 6 months passed, clint lowery joined band, , renamed rumblefish.

rumblefish short-lived, however, because found band same name. renamed crawlspace, , released ruin on mortal kombat soundtrack album entitled more kombat through tvt records in 1996. shortly after, band named crawlspac sent notice wanted $2,500 rights name. rather purchase rights, band members chose rename sevendust, name inspired commercial insecticide brand sevin dust . song rumble fish included on band s second album, home.

sevendust released self-titled debut, in-part produced former twisted sister guitarist jay jay french, on april 15, 1997, known heavy riffs, angry vocals , thrash-like drumming, in songs black , bitch . black became opening song every sevendust concert until 2004. debut album contains song ruin , mortal kombat soundtrack. sevendust appeared on billboard 200, remained there sixteen weeks , peaked @ 165 on april 4, 1998. album went gold on may 19, 1999.

in 1998, sevendust performed @ dynamo open air (may 29–31) , ozzfest 1998 (july through august). in same year released compilation called live , loud featured live footage of band s performance of september 16, 1998 @ chicago s metro.

home , animosity (1999–2002)

on august 24, 1999, released second album, home. album peaked @ 19 on billboard 200 , featured skin skunk anansie , chino moreno deftones guest vocalists. 2 singles album, denial , waffle , gave band moderate chart success, , latter of played on late night conan o brien show. appeared in woodstock 1999 , have toured many bands such korn, staind, nonpoint, reveille, godsmack, mudvayne, mushroomhead, powerman 5000, creed, kid rock, machine head, limp bizkit, disturbed, , metallica. in 1999, gained european exposure opening skunk anansie @ various shows in germany. skin skunk anansie provided guest vocals on track licking cream off home. opened kid rock , ted nugent metallica on new year s eve in 1999 @ pontiac silverdome near detroit, michigan. joined slipknot, coal chamber , other bands on tattoo earth tour in june 2000. in 2000, song fall recorded producer sylvia massy in 1998 @ southern tracks in atlanta, georgia. fall appears on soundtrack film scream 3.

in november 2001, band released third album, animosity. album went gold , gained band commercial success success of singles praise , angel s son , peaked @ 15 , 11, respectively, on mainstream rock tracks. in 2002 covered theme song of chris jericho wwf forceable entry. song never used official entry theme him though. angel s son tribute lynn strait, lead singer of band snot, whom members of sevendust friends with. strait had died in car accident in 1998. in addition being included on animosity, song included on compilation album strait up. band made appearance on late show david letterman playing acoustic version of angel s son featuring paul shaffer on keyboards.

in same year sevendust seen in chris rock movie down earth partial clip of waffle played.

another friend of band, dave williams, lead singer of drowning pool, died in 2002. tragedy strike again when lajon witherspoon s younger brother shot , killed later year. due death, sevendust went on hiatus in 2002.

seasons, next , clint lowery s departure (2003–2005)

in 2003, sevendust returned fourth album, seasons. album debuted @ no. 14 in us, selling around 68,000 copies in first week. 1 of band s best received albums , date features highest charting single (tied driven ), enemy , peaked @ no. 10 on mainstream rock chart. enemy made official theme song wwe unforgiven 2003. other singles released album, broken down , face face , met more moderate success charting @ 20 , 22, respectively.

in 2004, first time in band s career, released live album on cd/dvd double disk package titled southside double-wide: acoustic live. both cd , dvd include cover of hurt 9 inch nails dedicated johnny cash. concert showcased mellower side band acoustic performance.

on december 11, 2004, after playing show in columbus, ohio, announced clint lowery had left band mid-tour, because wanted play brother corey lowery in new band dark new day, had reportedly signed warner bros. records. replacement found rest of dates , replaced sonny mayo (from snot , amen). @ same time, sevendust , tvt records parted ways.

on october 11, 2005, sevendust joined forces friend producer/engineer shawn grove , released fifth studio album, next, on winedark records label, distributed universal music. in process, sevendust created own record label, 7bros records. album recorded in private house-turned-studio owned couple outside of band s hometown of atlanta, georgia, creed had recorded weathered record. first radio single off next track ugly , released radio august 9, 2005, followed music video. track pieces appeared on soundtrack film saw ii. next debuted @ no. 20 in us, selling around 37,000 copies in first week. not longer after release of next, sevendust s former label tvt records released greatest hits package sevendust, titled best of (chapter 1 1997–2004), label s final sevendust release. also, unofficial video hero released showing footage of bruce lee in many of famous film roles.

a few months after october 2005 release date of next, though, became clear winedark not live band s expectations. had people come me , say, when record coming out? , had been out 5 months , rose grumbles. basically, main person in charge of whole thing fell off face of earth. there no more cheques coming in, , money had not been paid in full.

alpha, chapter vii: hope & sorrow , clint s return (2006–2008)

in 2006, band considered bankrupt. winedark records had imploded, leaving them without distribution, tour support, or promised advance payments. band owed money crew members , other staffers , had mounting credit card debt. in april, expected tax refund government ease burden. then, found out accountant hadn t paid taxes , owed $120,000 government. beyond broke , says drummer , lyricist morgan rose. had debt load close million dollars, , in position where, no matter how money thought making, still having pay , pay.

sevendust (with shawn grove again serving producer/engineer), released sixth full-length studio album, entitled alpha, on march 6, 2007. album debuted @ no. 14 in us, band s highest chart position yet, selling on 42,000 copies of album in first week of sale. disc contained album s preceding internet track deathstar , hot mainstream rock top 10 smash driven , further active rock radio top 40 hit in form of beg differ . alpha band s second album featuring sonny mayo on rhythm guitar , first him part of writing process. alpha first album band released under warner-affiliated asylum records, making sevendust first rock band on label. band headlined 57-date tour february 8, 2007 april 28, 2007. boston heavy metal band diecast, supergroup invitro, , modern rock red accompanied sevendust on tour.

cold day memory (2009–2011)

in december 2008 sevendust toured black stone cherry while , in january 2009, sevendust geared hit road disturbed, multiple shows troops in iraq , afghanistan in spring. sevendust released limited-edition box set in november 2008 entitled packaged goods. each five-disc set autographed entire band. box set includes sevendust s 2005 release next, 2007 s alpha, 2007 s retrospective 2 (cd + dvd), , 2008 s chapter vii: hope , sorrow. before heading studio record 8th studio album, band headlined end of summer scorcher held & sponsored 98kupd in phoenix, arizona on september 26, 2009. along sevendust, other notable acts such corey taylor, 5 finger death punch, shadows fall & otep performed well.

october 2009, sevendust started recording cold day memory in chicago producer johnny k, has produced other successful rock acts such disturbed, staind, finger eleven, , 3 doors down. band launched newly designed website, promoting new album. during recording process band posted daily videos on official site , youtube channel; updates on new album, recording sessions in studio , recording sessions new house. stepping out of box regular recording sessions, showing fans how album process done, , every step in intricate process. on february 6, 2010, band leaked song forever dead on website. unraveling released through itunes on march 2. on march 17, band streamed last breath on radio. following day, confessions (without faith) received play time on radio, did end coming. band released eighth album, cold day memory, in april 20, 2010; 12-song disc marked sevendust s first studio recording band s original line-up since 2003 s seasons. first official single, unraveling , hit no. 29 on rock songs chart while cd rocketed no. 12 on billboard 200. album includes 2 more singles, forever , last breath , both of welcomed active rock radio.

sevendust toured chevelle, shinedown, puddle of mudd, , 10 years on carnival of madness during summer of 2010. band re-released self-titled debut album called sevendust: definitive edition. re-release contains 5 new songs. in november 2010, announced sevendust play alongside disturbed, korn , in moment in music weapon 5 tour. in february , march 2011, sevendust toured in australia iron maiden, slayer, ill niño , stone sour soundwave festival on october 16, 2011, band headlined second stage on second day of inaugural 48 hours festival in las vegas, nevada.

black out sun , time travelers & bonfires (2012–2014)

on june 27, 2012 sevendust announced enter studio next album on september 5, 2012. entered architekt music studios in butler, new jersey engineer mike ferretti. sevendust has completed recording ninth album 2013 release. in october 2012 interview, lowery described album ...a basic sevendust record , stating there s nothing, like, different ve done before. s got darker vibe it. ve got amount of programming element in there. s lot of do. s heavy , s got melodic element in . additionally, discussed possibility of touring in 2013 lacuna coil. lowery later confirmed album s title black out sun well. sevendust announced release album on own 7bros. records label (through warner music group s independent label group) on march 26, 2013. album s debut single, decay released radio , retail outlets on january 22, 2013. sevendust , coal chamber have announced co-headlining tour around united states begins on march 28 , runs through april 28, 2013.

kill flaw (2015–2017)

in february 2015, sevendust entered studio begin recording new album. has been reported band has finished recording new album in late march 2015. sevendust has titled new record kill flaw self-produced , recorded @ architekt music studio in butler, new jersey , released on october 2, 2015 via 7bros. records ada/warner brothers distribution. album debuted @ no. 13 on billboard 200 chart, selling on 21,000 units in first week of release. on july 24 band released new single thank various rock radio stations around us, official release of july 27. sevendust announced direct support on upcoming godsmack tour, began on september 23, 2015. band released lyric video song not today album on august 28. sevendust traveled australia , new zealand in march 2016. tour marks band s first trip down under in 6 years after slated 2014 soundwave festival appearance controversially cancelled. band suffered considerable backlash australian fans lay blame on band last minute cancellation. song thank nominated best metal performance 2016 grammy awards. on january 27, 2016, band announced u.s. headliner tour trivium , storm direct support. sevendust embark headlining tour of north america including canadian dates in august.

recently sevendust announced releasing live in denver acoustic set on dvd on december 14, 2016.
