fsn has served testing ground innovations in sports broadcast graphics developed fox , source of inspiration graphical appearances adopted other networks. fox sports networks first u.s. sports channels introduce banner graphic display game s score , remaining length placed on top of screen (initially known foxbox). since fsn implemented top-screen banner graphic, many other major networks have abandoned corner box graphic in favor of bar.


2001–2005

fsn first used scoring banner of broadcasts beginning in 2001, using simpler layout versions used in more recent years. designed transparent black rectangle, abbreviations of participating teams displayed in white , scores placed in yellow boxes (the white boxes scores used on broadcasts until 2002), , quarter or inning, time or number of outs, , horizontal version of fox sports net logo (with fox in logo rendered in white box until sometime in 2004, later changing blue) on far right. baseball broadcasts, baseball diamond graphic placed on far left pitch count/speed on right side. in mid-july 2003, fox sports net adopted new graphics baseball broadcasts, later expanded college football, hockey , basketball broadcasts, despite retaining banner. in 2004, logo changed reveal fsn pillbox logo , fox sportsnet in black; in july of year, fox sportsnet logo replaced region branding of individual fsn channel. fox sports net formally become known fsn in september 2004.


the score banner used fsn telecasts used fox sports major league baseball broadcasts on fox broadcasting company, albeit different graphics package, 2001 until 2004 postseason, modifications banner in 2003 more closely mirror version used fsn.


2005–2008

in mid-june 2005, banner given cosmetic upgrade, although otherwise continued use graphics introduced in july 2003. team abbreviations rendered in white or black text in team s main color (depending on color contrast); scores placed in white boxes, accompanied flash effect , futuristic computer sound effect when 1 of teams scored. during baseball telecasts, flash effect used far-left diamond graphic (itself altered in 2006), represent bases being circled underside home run graphic below banner , team or player name in electronic lettering. fsn logo @ far right rendered in black ovular shape region name rendered in white.


2008–2011

for 2008 college football season, scoring banner reverted box design @ top-left portion of screen (with no fsn branding, other logo bug of local network in top-right corner), featuring collegiate-style typeface, similarities fox s current graphic styling , text style used big ten network. box changes colors of team in possession of ball, down information in top portion , text box information such punt hangtime extending bottom; box flipped indicate score , size of possessing team s scoring area expanded possession arrow. variations of package later implemented professional sports events televised fsn affiliates, beginning nhl telecasts on october 11, 2008, nba telecasts on october 28 (initially using smaller score box placed @ bottom-right 2008–09 season, before switching horizontal strip design 2009–10 season), , major league baseball games on both fsn , fox in april 2009.


new wordmark logos each fsn owned-and-operated affiliate debuted graphics package, featuring bold fs abbreviation, followed region name (or team name during professional sports events, colored in respective team s colors); word net dropped names of each channel. fsn affiliates owned directv sports networks retained previous pillbox logo despite adopting new graphics; however, fsn new york , comcast-owned fsn affiliates relaunched under respective msg plus , comcast sportsnet brands prior adoption of new fsn package.


in 2010, fsn affiliates began increase use of standard fox sports brand through various means, including use of standard fox sports microphone flags, introduction of localized versions of fox sports frontcap before live broadcasts, , incorporation of fox sports logo new logo animation network s bug. in 2011, fsn networks followed lead of fox network framing graphics 16:9 aspect ratio (which resulted in logo bug being shifted farther right outside of 4:3 safe area, , corner score box far left) , converting standard definition feeds broadcast hd content in letterboxed format.


2011–2013

at start of 2011 major league baseball season, fox s regional sports networks , national programming began using on-air presentation identical used national fox sports telecasts aired on fox broadcasting company. phased in graphics package designed troika design group – however, in-game graphics still used previous, metallic fsn designs until 2012.


fox sports introduced updated logo across of properties on september 1, 2012, regional networks dropping fs wordmark entirely , adopting individual logos combining fox sports logo , name of each channel s regional name (or team name in bugs shown during game broadcasts).
