Design 915 line

1 design

1.1 active recoil channel
1.2 head structure changes
1.3 d2 vs d3

design

titleist releases new line of driver every other year, last line being 913 set. previous 913 line, d2 comes in 460 cubic centimeter head , d3 comes in 440 cc head. clubs still have same visual above older models, went through radical changes regarding bottom of club on last 2 years. in regards “active recoil channel” added behind face of club. face of club went through small changes.

active recoil channel

the active recoil channel (arc) long, deep channel runs along bottom of head right behind face. idea behind design when ball impacts face, channel actively flex , compress lead lower spin off face , higher ball speed. clubs don t have channel tend more rigid , produce excess spin while losing ball speed.

head structure changes

there minor changes in structure , design of head. in regards thinness/thickness of titanium throughout driver. kind of change has 2 different effects on club: shifts overall weight, , varies compression in face. thicker areas pull weight toward them while thinner areas push weight away. compression similar; thinner areas compress more while thick areas more rigid through impact. further details of how 915 line accomplished , impacts of explained below.

in top of head, weight of 915 head shifted front back. top of head right behind face made thinner while toe , of club thickened. allowed center of mass shift away leading edge , more towards allows face stay more stable through impact. keeps face squarer when come in contact ball in turn leads more consistent ball flights.
on face of club, center portion thickened considerably maximize ball speed. face, made radially thinner. idea focused toward forgiveness on shots struck off center of face. thinner metal allows face compress more, in turn reduce amount of excess side spin on ball, helping save poorly struck shots.

d2 vs d3

the d2 , d3 models vary in 2 aspects:
