from 1910, kirkby became pioneer of summer entertainment @ oval in margate performed concert parties. in 1910 party comprised: emily hayes (soprano), jessie jolly (humorist), bernard turner (tenor), mr. l. lennol (humorist) , james jimmy godden (humorist); on succeeding years, members of group vary. artists typically perform @ margate during summer season, returning music halls , variety theatres of london , provinces during winter months.
kirkby s shows set standard upheld many years himself , successors. in 1 of shows (in 1915) harry hudson , association mix of songs , humour resulted in partnership gained great popularity music-hall act in 1920s. in 1916 stage magazine gave following review of concert resulting collaboration:
popular newcomers bill week stanley kirkby , harry hudson making first appearance in west end in double turn. score 1 of hits of programme syncopated harmony ... both gentlemen possess fine voices , ragtime sung artistically , not shouted ... altogether duo congratulated upon excellence of performance.
the names of kirkby , hudson provided top-line attraction many years , made great capital out of songs specially written them weston , lee. during latter part of first world war , several years afterwards toured music halls double act, though discographer brian rust did not consider of these songs music-hall in style. several of songs recorded edison bell between 1916 , 1925.
in 1925 kirkby shared theatrical production of sixteen-scene burlesque revue called apple sauce, o gorman brothers. based on book wise, fred pattison , o gorman brothers, songs lawrence wright, , weston , lee. show opened @ royal hippodrome in eastbourne, , following opening night on 30 march 1925, stage magazine remarked:
rarely has such long-sustained applause greeted fall of curtain on revue @ house case ... when apple sauce smart production work of brothers o gorman went without slightest hitch, , scored emphatic success.
during summer of 1928, after several years absence, kirkby returned direct concert parties @ margate @ least 1 season.
