since 1983 craven has been in parliamentary constituency of skipton & ripon. constituency considered 1 of safest seats in england long history of conservative representation. member of parliament was: john watson 1983 1987; david curry 1987 2010; julian smith since 2010; , still craven’s member of parliament in 2017


county council

elections craven district council held in 3 out of every 4 years, 1 third of 30 seats on council being elected @ each election. since first election council in 1973 council has alternated between periods when no party had overall control , times when conservatives had majority, apart 2-year period between 1996 , 1998 election when liberal democrats had majority. after no party had majority since 2001, conservatives regained overall control @ 2010 election , have held since. after craven district council 2016 election council composed of following councillors:-
