the first law language use made in 1990, when slovakia part of czechoslovakia. in communities having @ least 20% minority population, minority language (and was) used in official communications.
1995
in 1993, czechoslovakia dissolved czech republic , slovakia. slovak national party , cultural organization matica slovenska urged creation of laws protect state language. modifications (called language law without exceptions ) of 1995 contained punishments not using slovak in official communication, regardless of percentage of minority in area. later shown violate constitution of slovakia , abolished constitutional court. new 1995 law vacates earlier.
1999
for accession of slovakia european union, slovakia had accept law on minority language use. created in 1999, , allowed use of minority languages in public situations (such hospitals) in areas @ least 20% minority.
