mallabarman born in malo family in gokarnoghat village beside titash river, near brahmanbaria town in, comilla district of undivided bengal. second of 4 children , lost parents when child. 2 brothers died shortly after, , sister (widowed after marriage) died before went calcutta @ age of 20. boy , teenager, until left college, lived in village uncle. first child mallo community of village , nearby area finish school. members of malo community collected subscriptions support school expenses (mainly books, since school fees either waived or covered scholarships received). attended town s elementary school , annada high school. matriculated school in 1933 , went on comilla victoria college. in part because of financial difficulty, left college in 1934 , went calcutta work literary editor.
