a number of new queens produced in last brood of summer colony. these queens mate , hibernate average of 9 months. march may, these queens emerge hibernation search nesting sites. after suitable site found, queen lays small batch of diploid eggs. once these eggs hatch, queen tends larvae until grown , pupate. these pupa emerge workers. june onward, queen produce steady supply of workers. july september, new males , queens present , mate.
