the child jesus, holds 2 red flowers (symbols of passion) , mary @ francesco gonzaga, kneeling , has grateful , smiling expression while receiving blessing. protection given gonzaga during battle symbolized mary s mantle, partially covers head. opposite donor st. john baptist cross featuring usual cartouche saying ecce/agnvs/dei ecce/q[vi] toll/it p[eccata] m[vndi] (behold lamb of god, takes away sins of world), , mother, st. elizabeth, protector of isabella d este, wife of francesco gonzaga. choice of st. elizabeth in place of patron may have been chosen message of judgement norsa made pay work penalty removing image of madonna home. unlike norsa, st. elizabeth represented jewess in yellow turban, said first recognize sanctity of mary.
