marywil built time between 1692 , 1697 maria kazimiera, queen of poland, commemorate victory of husband, king john iii of poland on turks in battle of vienna. large, pentagonal baroque building designed tylman gamerski , modelled after place des vosges , place dauphine in paris. building, bearing strong resemblance spanish baroque town market squares, contained shops , houses of merchants, while central square used marketplace. small apartments depots leased foreign merchants competed local tradesmen. northern edge of complex housed chapel holy mother of victories. building served royal residence.


in 1738 complex bought załuski family , there józef jędrzej załuski started famous załuski library. around 1744 building converted monastery antonina zamoyska. in 1807 4 large houses built in former marketplace. between 1817 , 1821 chrystian piotr aigner reconstructed eastern wing in accordance contemporary styles , added 7 story high clock tower. simultaneously, in 1819 monastery moved out of complex , converted housing quarter. however, afterwards, in 1825-1833 entire complex demolished make way new grand theatre constructed there.
