the prussian administration had significant impact on elector frederick william northern railway corporation , hence carl s railway. company renamed hessian northern railway (hessische nordbahn) , planned build line karlshafen via detmold , herford lemförde. on 1 april 1867, northern railway headquarters established in kassel. in 1868 northern railway taken on bergisch-märkische railway company (bme) , in 1873 took on operation of lines. on 1 january 1882 bme nationalised prussian government.


although bme planned several variations of eastward extension of carl s railway between 1873 , 1878, these failed due lack of funds. in 1873 royal westphalian railway company received concession second line through karlshafen. line, solling railway, opened in 1878 , became important east-west trunk route freight. passed through karlshafen on eastern (or northern @ point) bank of weser, station built, never connected carl line on opposite bank. in order avoid confusion between 2 karlshafen stations, station on carl s railway suffixed left bank (linkes ufer, l.u.) , station on solling railway suffixed right bank (rechtes ufer, r.u.).


in 1870s there modest volume of traffic carl s railway 2 pairs of trains each day. subsequently there gradual increase 7 pairs of trains in 1914. however, involved increased use of mixed trains passengers , freight extended travel times of 50 minutes. pure passenger trains took 33 minutes speed limit of 50 km/h imposed in 1904 secondary lines.


in 1895 halt established between hümme , trendelburg in stammen , in 1899 halt opened on wülmersen estate.
