exterior
the church built in sandstone longridge, , has slate roofs. in decorated style. church consists of five-bay nave clerestory , aisles, south porch, chancel aisles, , sanctuary without aisles. northeast vestry block, , @ west end steeple. tower has angle buttresses, , stair tower @ southeast corner. there moulded west doorway, above two-light window, , small window ringers chamber. bell openings have 2 openings, , above them continuous hood mould around whole tower. on tower broach spire 3 tiers of lucarnes, , coronet of blind lucarnes. spire rises 100 feet (30.5 m). gables @ east ends of nave , sanctuary have cross finials. along sides of clerestory 5 quatrefoil windows hood moulds. of windows along aisles have 2 lights, , east window has 3 lights.
interior
inside church five-bay arcade carried on round piers tall plinths. there organ gallery @ west end, lady chapel @ southeast of church, , sacred heart chapel @ northeast. few items of church furniture designed pugin still in use, including triple sedilia, credence table, prie-dieu , candlesticks. pugin s rood screen moved west end in 1895-6. in caen stone, painted brown, , has wide central ogee arch flanked 3 similar smaller arches on each side. painted rood figures, representing crucifixion, , pugin, hang on chancel arch. pugin s altar has been moved sacred heart chapel, , has been altered. other fittings date 1906 refurbishment. these include high altar, in carrara marble , alabaster, , elaborate pulpit, in marble , alabaster. around church colourful scheme of stained glass windows, dating mid-19th century or later. two-manual pipe organ built in 1846 j. c. bishop of london, , repaired in 1976 pendlebury organ company of cleveleys.

there ring of 6 bells, cast in 1844 charles , george mears of whitechapel bell foundry. have been described first peal of bells have been rung in english catholic church since reformation.
