the iruma air show held annually on november 3rd culture day. takes place under clear blue skies. event features ground displays of various military aircraft 3 branches of japan self-defense forces , performance blue impulse, jasdf s aerobatics team. police department helicopters on ground display. in recent years uh-1n , c-12j aircraft of air force s 459th airlift squadron visit nearby yokota air base.


a speaker @ 2010 air show sparked controversy when criticized government.


due base s proximity tokyo large number of spectators attend event each year, although numbers can fluctuate. in 2015 attendance approximately 200,000, in 2016 130,000 , in 2017 around 210,000 people came event.
