at shooter s hill, watling street , a2 part company, watling street continues along a207. @ point a2 joins dual carriageway, rochester way relief road (the carriageways north of junction being a102) 50 mph (80 km/h) limit.


the a2 meets traffic lights @ kidbrooke; last set of lights out of greater london (the lights affect right-turns coast bound). shortly after here, a2 meets south circular road , becomes motorway in name, 3 lanes , hard shoulder in each direction. within london section left hand lane used local traffic.


at falconwood, road becomes east rochester way – point once westbound terminus of dual carriageway. there exits bexleyheath, black prince (at bexley), , other south east london suburbs. motorists should aware stretch between blackwall tunnel approach , dartford heath covered average speed cameras. before a2 reaches junction a2018 speed limit increases national speed limit (70 mph, 113 km/h) , road heads east kent towards dartford, bypassing town south , cutting through dartford heath. next junction links road m25 london orbital motorway @ dartford; next, (bean interchange), b255 , a296 bluewater, watling street rejoins a2.


the a2 bypasses gravesend, before merging m2 @ 3 crutches interchange, near strood.


this latter section, pepper hill interchange (near northfleet , ebbsfleet international railway station), cobham interchange underwent extensive works (2007–2009) move entire carriageway south run alongside channel tunnel rail link, remove road away local housing – , continue fourth lane in each direction, grade separated junctions.
