the cape banks lighthouse important in maritime history of south australia , establishment of navigation aids during late 19th century. represents developments in lighthouse technology , design of time. lantern house, re-used original cape northumberland lighthouse, of particular significance 1 of 3 deville , company lanterns remaining in australia. 1 of other lanterns (at cape borda) lantern house @ cape banks of distinctive fourteen-sided design. coola has been successful pastoral station 140 years. shearing shed, built around turn-of-the-century, 1 of great shearing sheds in south-east along mount schank , glencoe . property of coola associated south australian company , captain john ellis, prominent south australian, , descendants.



dingley dell museum

dingley dell museum, (38°02′28″s 140°40′46″e / 38.041240°s 140.679540°e / -38.041240; 140.679540 (dingley dell museum)), former dwelling of adam lindsay gordon, located in gazetted locality of port macdonnell within boundaries of dingley dell conservation park. added state heritage register on 24 july 1980. significance reported follows:



dingley dell home of poet, pioneer , horseman adam lindsay gordon (1833-1870) , wife during 1864-65. arriving in south east in 1853, gordon found district rich source of inspiration writing. gained reputation horse breaker , steeplechase rider - dangerous leap on fence on edge of blue lake @ mount gambier became stuff of folklore. gordon s status indicated dingley dell being 1 of local museums in state , first associated notable individual. opened in 1922. the former oast house , attached stone building (37°52′29″s 140°51′00″e / 37.87463278°s 140.84997393°e / -37.87463278; 140.84997393 (former oast house , attached stone building)) located in gazetted locality of yahl on caroline forest headquarters road. added state heritage register on 28 may 1981. described in 1984 follows:



random rubble stonework paling extension. steeply pitched pyramid shaped corrugated galvanized iron roof. dressed limestone quoins. basement entered under side elevation. lean-to extension on south-east elevation. hop growing began in yahl district in 1870 s , continued limited success until years of century. building used church services.

random coursed stonework stone quoins , dressed surrounds. corrugated galvanized iron hipped roof , gables finials on 2 main elevations. string course between storeys. flattened , semicircular arched double hung sash windows. doors semicircular fanlights. stone chimneys. symmetrical elevation facing charles street. built customs house, court house , telegraph office. housed police , families; cells , stables @ rear.



german style cottage

the dwelling described ‘german style cottage’ (37°51′24″s 140°50′11″e / 37.85664608°s 140.83648246°e / -37.85664608; 140.83648246 (dwelling - german style cottage)) located in gazetted locality of yahl on ruwoldt road. added state heritage register on 24 july 1980. significance described in 1983 follows:



random rubble limestone steeply pitched corrugated galvanized iron hipped ( german style ) roof , raked verandah. several extensions built on rear , side of house. double hung sash windows. relic of german settlement in mount gambier area. many other parts of south australia, mount gambier received numerous german settlers, brought them distinctive building styles.



mingbool homestead , stables

mingbool homestead , stables (37°44′54″s 140°51′43″e / 37.7483°s 140.862020°e / -37.7483; 140.862020 (mingbool homestead , stables)) located in gazetted locality of mingbool. added state heritage register on 29 june 1989. significance described in 1983 follows:



the homestead consists of several sections of different periods. oldest parts of house <one being original kitchen) have painted random rubble stonework. these 2 sections separated , linked weatherboard central section. corrugated galvanized iron hipped , gabled roof gablets. finial apex of front gable. stone chimneys. bay window dressed stone surrounds front of main gable. roof extends verandah supported on timber posts. house has been altered , former drawing room converted main bedroom. after many owners mingbool station, founded in earl y 1840 s, bought in 1877 mrs. joanna crowe of mount bruce ; passed her kirby descendants, own day.



mount salt limestone track

the mount salt limestone track (37°56′15″s 140°38′47″e / 37.93737357°s 140.64629689°e / -37.93737357; 140.64629689 (mount salt limestone track)) located in gazetted locality of mount schank adjoining northern side of mcleans road. added state heritage register on 12 august 2015. significance described in 1983 follows:



the mount salt limestone track rare intact example of track designed specific animal-drawn vehicles. there no known comparable examples in south australia. track connected mount salt station area s road network. many tracks once in area, track ran across ground surface later cut through limestone reef facilitate efficient , safe travel people , small loads. track have been important 1870s 1921 part of direct route between mount salt station , mount schank station, head station of enormous pastoral operation. featuring 3 linear grooves, track designed use single animal (or file of animals) drawn cart or buggy. design unusual in limiting vehicle types able use it. track s design never updated after 1921, when state government repurchased of land closer settlement. intact , largely undisturbed, track expresses type of road transport era of animal drawn vehicles.



pine hall

the dwelling described ‘pine hall’ (37°48′09″s 140°47′28″e / 37.802570°s 140.791210°e / -37.802570; 140.791210 (dwelling ( pine hall ))) dwelling located in gazetted locality of suttontown. added state heritage register on 29 june 1989. described in 1984 follows:



white painted rock-faced dolomite , painted mount gambier limestone dressings. corrugated galvanized iron hipped roof single storey concave verandah. double hung sash windows. painted dressed stone chimneys. verandah supported tapered masonry columns. front elevation of pine hall two-storey, symmetrical , of georgian proportions. caleb fidler (1823-1874) , s.t. webb began celebrated general store in 1858 in tiny building on corner near fidler built house after business had prospered. store @ present site in commercial street.
