jack deuce cooper (matt leblanc) farm boy arrives @ open tryout santa rosa rockets minor league baseball team. makes team after blowing away scouts rocket arm having strong training camp. deuce befriends chimpanzee, ed, after being told new roommate/teammate. after move apartment, deuce develops relationship neighbor, lydia. also, ed becomes close daughter, elizabeth. deuce s game begins take off ed s , team becomes league contender. deuce s coach, chubb, thinks deuce can mlb starter if keeps head on straight. after owners sell ed make buck, deuce takes matters own hands , goes find ed see him being tortured pair of goons. deuce saves ed ed escapes , finds truck of frosted bananas , doesn t realize stuck inside trailer, ice cold. ed ends in hospital freezing death before final game of season , deuce questions own ability continue playing without best friend. deuce ends playing , struggles right off bat. when ed, elizabeth , lydia arrive @ game together, deuce turns heat , rockets take championship. ed, deuce, lydia , elizabeth become family , live happily ever after.
