on april 23, upper level storm system increased in strength moved southern rockies southern great plains region. cold front moved across east-central texas, eastern oklahoma, , missouri river valley through night. moist air ahead of cold front in south central states allowed strong severe thunderstorms develop across mississippi valley. moderate risk of severe weather issued across ark-la-tex region , lower mississippi valley. there 5 ef0 tornadoes in east texas , southwest arkansas during late night , morning of april 24. 1 tornado in missouri traveled 22 miles (35 km), did not cause significant damage.

on april 24, energetic upper level storm system strengthened moved texas southern great lakes region. cold front moved eastward across middle , lower mississippi river valley before heading ohio river valley , stretched mid-south portion of united states. in front of cold front, warm, moist , unstable air mass spread northward lower mississippi river valley , northern gulf coast states middle mississippi , ohio river valleys. there thunderstorms had formed during morning hours , conditions become more numerous throughout day. set stage significant severe weather outbreak potential strong , violent tornadoes, large hail, , damaging winds. result, storm prediction center issued rare high risk of severe weather portions of mississippi, alabama, tennessee, , kentucky, first such issuance since april 26, 2009. 4 particularly dangerous situation tornado watches issued day areas of missouri, kentucky, illinois, arkansas, louisiana, mississippi, tennessee, , alabama. outbreak of severe weather caused nascar call off aaron s 312 race in talladega, alabama. in tennessee, there 3 ef1 tornadoes , ef0 tornado on april 24, , ef2 early on april 25. ef2 struck after 2 a.m. , caused damage in 3 counties. despite extensive structural damage, there no injuries.


alabama hard hit tornadoes on day. ef4 tornado struck southeastern dekalb county in mount vernon area. serious damage occurred near intersection of county roads 80 and 55, church , two-story home destroyed. several mobile homes destroyed , numerous large trees snapped or uprooted. 5 injuries occurred tornado. ef3 tornado touched down in south albertville. throughout event, tornado skipped , hit other places along path marshall county geraldine in dekalb county. first damage reports came in @ around 10:15 p.m. storm left downtown area of albertville in complete destruction, downed trees , power lines in dekalb county. fifty-nine homes in albertville destroyed tornado. 198 had major damage while 157 had minor damage - total of 414 homes impacted storm. caused damage middle , high school in albertville. ef3 tornado touched down in parrish , tracked through cordova , corner. significant damage buildings occurred in parrish , cordova, while corner , blount county suffered uprooted or broken trees, @ least 1 travel trailer overturned , minor structural damage. arkadelphia road near skyline road blocked time fallen trees , debris. total of 70 to 80 homes , businesses sustained damage tornado. third ef3 tornado in alabama struck trailer park in mentone. tornado destroyed 9 of 11 manufactured homes in park. 7 people injured it.


the severe weather , tornadoes wreaked havoc across mississippi. near starkville, ef2 tornado destroyed unoccupied mobile home , damaged 20 homes, snapping , uprooting numerous trees, damaging barn , snapped 3 power poles. ten people killed , 146 others injured when ef4 tornado, started in louisiana, tore through state of mississippi. ef2 tornado moved on jasper , lauderdale counties caused significant structural damage church , destroyed outbuilding. ef1 tornado moved on lauderdale , kemper counties damaged or destroyed 4 barns , destroyed 1 shed. in all, 319 homes damaged in yazoo county; 114 in choctaw county; 60 in holmes county; 48 homes , 3 businesses damaged in monroe county; 63 homes damaged in union county; 42 homes damaged in warren county; , 35 homes damaged in attala county.
