description , identification

while compared close relative, l. zonulum, l. leucozonium has distinct features separate other lasioglossum species. there differences in appearance between females , males. additionally, eye has been studied in relation nocturnal bee megalopta genalis.

female l. leucozonium recognizable rough , relatively short propodeal dorsal areas. smooth surface of these areas has horizontal stripes divided in middle, unique characteristic of eastern united states lasioglossum species, feature shared l. zonulum. dull, grainy first metasomal tergum has well-developed punctures separated 1-1.5 times width, , vertex behind ocelli has stripes. in comparison l. zonulum, pronotal angle of l. leucozonium projects out less still obtuse. pronotum has well-developed dorsal edge , incomplete lateral ridge, of lower part unnoticeable , broadly rounded, divided slanted groove. rounded lip on scutum of middle thoracic segment raised pronotum, has propodeal triangle defined carinate rim. has elongated head, shiny face, , evenly rounded, protruding, , extremely grainy supraclypeal area uniformly , densely spotted punctures separated width or less. has granulated , shiny clypeus, protruding below eyes, surface has lot of punctures without groove in middle. distance between lateral ocelli greater between lateral ocelli , eye. while lateral edge of metasomal tergum ii wavy, distal keel of labrum broad in front , gradually narrows moving tip. moderately shiny mesoscutum has microscopically patterned surface, , scutellum has uniform punctures of mesoscutum. there white yellowish white hair on head , thorax, though thorax has brown hairs on scutellum. separated hind tibial hair pale yellowish brown while dorsal hairs light brown. on metasomal tergum , terga ii-iv, hair white band of hair on terga ii-iv , elongated hairs scattered on anterior surface of tergum i. mesoscutal hairs moderately dense , seem feathery, , wing membrane has glassy, translucent appearance.

l. leucozonium fly relatively fast, meaning must rely on compound eyes orientation , foraging, in bright light. eyes contain on 3,000 facets maximum diameter of 20 µm. 41-µm-thick cornea consisting of convex inner , outer cornea, has developed , fused corneal bulges. lamina has no branching , l2 , l4-fiber types spread laterally.
