the ceremony of laying foundation stone of new roman catholic church in ballincollig led right rev. dr. delany, bishop of cork, on 13 august 1865. population of parish of ballincollig had grown large considerable time chapel stood on south side of village unable cope large attendances.


the new site on higher ground less 100 yards south of old church. on property of thomas wise gave site free of charge. generously gave use of valuable quarry @ property in coolroe, short distance away, stone needed building got. total cost expected £5,000, half of had been raised @ stage.


the ceremony of laying foundation stone fixed 1 o’clock. because of strong westerly winds , heavy rainfall, delayed until 2 o’clock. usual mass @ twelve o’clock took place in old church. after mass bishop led procession site of new church long service took place. ceremony concluded bishop passing around outer limits of building , sprinkling holy water. lordship blessed foundation stone , formally laid. collection made in aid of funds new church , £100 subscribed on spot.
