2002 e. coli outbreak

conagra recalled 19 million pounds of ground beef in july 2002 e. coli bacterial contamination. third-largest recall time. meat linked illnesses of 19 people in 6 western , midwestern states.


2006–7 salmonella outbreak

in february 2007, conagra recalled jars of peter pan , great value brand peanut butter product code 2111 on lid, because linked salmonella outbreak. ultimately, centers disease control (cdc) documented more 628 individuals stricken salmonella poisoning in 47 states traced peter pan , great value peanut butter. of those, 20% hospitalized, according cdc, reported no deaths associated outbreak. since peter pan (but not great value) made @ 1 plant, recall included peter pan jars sold in u.s. between may 2006 , february 2007. in may 2015, company agreed plead guilty knowingly releasing products tainted salmonella interstate commerce. sentencing delayed u.s. district court judge w. louis sands, ordered nationwide newspaper advertisements searching victims of outbreak government supply victim impact statements inclusion in pre-sentence report.


diacetyl

on september 4, 2007, flavor , extract manufacturers association recommended reduction of diacetyl in butter-like flavorings, such used in popcorn, due cases of potentially fatal disease bronchiolitis obliterans or popcorn workers s lung appearing among plant workers exposed diacetyl fumes, in 1 case involved popcorn consumer. next day conagra foods announced remove diacetyl jiffy pop , orville redenbacher s popcorn products.


2007 salmonella outbreak

on october 11, 2007, conagra asked stores pull banquet , generic brand chicken , turkey pot pies due 152 cases of salmonella poisoning in 31 states being linked consumption of conagra pot pies, 20 people hospitalized. @ time, both usda , conagra decided in favor of consumer advisory , against recall. conagra said issue stemmed pies not being cooked thoroughly in older microwaves, , package s heating instructions changed reflect different microwaves. however, plant in marshall, missouri, pot pies manufactured closed on october 11 well. october 12, full recall announced, affecting varieties of frozen pot pies sold under brands banquet, albertson s, food lion, great value, hill country fare, kirkwood, kroger, meijer, , western family. recalled pot pies included varieties in 7-oz. single-serving packages bearing number p-9 or est. 1059 printed on side of package. october 14, 174 cases of salmonella poisoning in 32 states linked consumption of contaminated conagra pot pies, 33 people hospitalized. public interest groups criticized conagra delay in issuing recall, decision conagra defended saying recall precaution. @ time of recall, usda had still not identified source of salmonella contamination. on october 17, colorado department of public health reported investigation centers disease control , prevention , state public health departments involved large cluster of illnesses caused salmonella identified these products , stated that, nationally, @ least 211 individuals 35 states have become ill. january 1 through december 31, 2007, cdc identified total of 401 cases in 41 states.
