following end of 1977/78 world series cricket season, kerry packer s organisation signed second tranche of players participate in series. consequence of there invariably more players available there places in 3 wsc teams. compensate players not being selected regularly, new side formed in 1978 undertake tour of australia. plan new side, came called cavaliers , take on each of other 3 wsc teams in turn in series of both one-day , two-day games. schedule see whichever of 3 teams not playing either supertest or international cup game taking on cavaliers. ensured not fringe players got both match practice , access prize money on offer playing cavaliers, other teams able continue playing during downtime periods when not in main wsc schedule. had further effect of bringing world series cricket number of smaller venues around country, rather restricting playing in major cities.
