in 1999, weiss dropped out of college , founded organic mind unit, live hip hop band performed in chicago. versions of group included 8 rappers, weiss drummer. after showed other omu members of writing, encouraged him start rapping. took on moniker verbal kent, based on roger “verbal” kint, con artist played kevin spacey in 1995 film usual suspects, makes story based on surroundings – story takes on different meaning upon repeat viewings of film. weiss has said aspires sort of depth in rhymes.

solo work

in 2003, kent released first recording, 12-inch single “alien rock” on gravel records. single included on solo full-length debut, box, appeared next year. followed move walls in 2006. album had single, “dead serious” featured ill bill , lance ambu.

fist shaking, kent’s third album, came out in 2008. sixth solo release, 2011’s save yourself, features contributions masta ace, sadat x, ed o.g. , 1 lo, , production pete rock, marco polo , !llmind. sound of weapon, released in february 2014, produced khrysis , given rating of 4.0 (out of 5) hip hop dx. seventh solo album, anesthesia, released on september 11, 2015, , given rating of 6.0 out of 10 pitchfork.

in 2006, kent formed crew of battle rappers going name giraffe nuts. final group composed of ten rappers: kent, rusty chains, lance ambu, alltruisms, roadblok, doomsday, encyclopedia brown, moodswangz, kang konquorer , elfamail. released album, eat them, in 2007.

in 2013, kent, detroit emcee red pill , producer apollo brown formed ugly heroes, releasing self-titled debut in may 2013. album examines harsh realities of members hometowns. second studio album, in between, released on june 24, 2016.
