from queen square, a4 carries on queen square place , charlotte street, before heading along upper bristol road royal victoria park newbridge road. road crosses river avon on way join a36 , become dual carriageway again until roundabout forms junction a39 wells road @ globe inn , exit nearby bath spa university. continues on through village of saltford towards keynsham roundabout splits road , a4 continues dual carriageway by-passing town, crossing on river chew in process.


the end of by-pass coincides junction of bristol outer ring road, a4174. route goes though suburb of brislington, going past arnos court park , arnos vale cemetery. road runs on bridge on new cut , temple gate bristol temple meads railway station located. route turns redcliffe way loses trunk road classification @ roundabout junction a38. redcliffe way crosses river avon again before turning right along welsh , left on baldwin street centre. there turns towards bristol harbour via anchor road past @bristol science museum. after roundabout a4 follows along hotwell road , around one-way system merges a4 a3029.


at point a4 regains trunk road classification , passes under clifton suspension bridge along portway. heads out of city suburbs of sea mills , shirehampton before going under m5 end @ roundabout feeds motorway, m49 , a403 in avonmouth.
