Article titles Wikipedia:Manual of Style



a title should recognizable name or description of topic natural, sufficiently precise, concise, , consistent titles of related articles. if these criteria in conflict, should balanced against 1 another.


for guidance on formatting titles, see wp:article titles § article title format section of policy. note following:



capitalize title s initial letter (except in rare cases, such ebay), otherwise follow sentence case (funding of unesco projects) not title case (funding of unesco projects). not apply title case expected title occur in ordinary prose. see wikipedia:naming conventions (capitalization).
to italicize title, add {{italic title}} near top of article. (for mixed situations, use e.g. {{displaytitle:​interpretations of 2001: space odyssey }} instead.) use of italics should conform wp:manual of style/text formatting § italic type.
do not use a, an, or first word (economy of second empire, not economy of second empire), unless inseparable part of name (the hague) or part of title of work (a clockwork orange, simpsons).
titles should nouns or noun phrases: life, not in life.
the final character should not punctuation mark unless part of name (saint-louis-du-ha! ha!, done?) or abbreviation (inverness city f.c.), or closing round bracket or quotation mark required (john palmer (1814 schooner)).
whenever quotation marks or apostrophes appear in article titles, add redirect same title using “curly” quotemarks/apostrophes instead of usual straight ones.
