the discovery channel s first logo television screen picturing map of world. 2 decades, starting in 1987, channel s logo incorporated discovery wordmark rendered in aurora bold condensed font circular shape in front of it. circle took form of rising sun, or animated version of vitruvian man.


in 1995, channel s name simplified discovery channel , dropping name. globe became permanent part of logo, , underline added bottom of logo. during time, company started expanding , launched several new networks. many of sister networks used logo designs similar 1 used discovery, incorporating globe , using same typeface. networks had logos based on discovery s included animal planet, travel channel, discovery science, discovery wings , discovery home & leisure. logo changed in 2000 when word channel moved underline, , globe altered focus on pacific ocean.


on april 15, 2008, before season premiere of deadliest catch, discovery channel debuted new logo, , new tagline ( world awesome ). logo designed boston-based design firm viewpoint creative , replaced longstanding aurora bold condensed font in logo gotham. globe has been merged d in discovery . combination of d in wordmark , globe used separately, channel s logo bug during programming. later in 2009, design agency royale modified logo, detaching globe d , , making word channel bigger. modified logo rolled out discovery s international channels during first half of 2009.


in 2013, logo changed globe , d still merged, no other letters or words.
