emphasis

boldface or capitals not used emphasis; use italics instead, sparingly: overuse of emphasis reduces effectiveness. ideally, use <em>word</em> or {{em|word}} instead of word indicate emphasis: vaccine {{em|not}} cure, prophylactic. allows user style sheets handle emphasis in customized way, , aid re-users , translators.


titles

use italics titles of works such books, pamphlets, films (including short films), television series, named exhibitions, computer , video games (but not other software), music albums, , paintings. titles of articles, chapters, songs, television episodes, research papers , other short works take double quotation marks instead. italics not used major revered religious works (the bible, quran, talmud). many of these titles should in title case.


words words

use italics within quotations if in source material. when adding emphasis on wikipedia, add editorial note [emphasis added] after quotation.
