on april 12, 1989, federal communications commission (fcc) granted original construction permit continental television network (ctn) full-service station on channel 23 serve missoula. station, @ first known application identification number, 881130 kg, took call letters klfv, before station went on air, had changed calls again, time ktmf. station issued license on february 28, 1991 , signed on later year. made missoula 1 of last cities in nation full service 3 major networks. previously, abc had been relegated limited clearances on keci-tv , kpax-tv, or via cable kxly-tv in spokane.


in february 2001, ctn sold ktmf, along then-ktmf-lp in kalispell, kwyb in butte, kwyb-lp in bozeman , ktgf in great falls, max media of montana. first television station acquisitions in montana max media.


on september 30, 2013, cowles company acquired max media s montana television station cluster (which, in addition ktmf , kwyb, included kfbb-tv in great falls, khbb-ld in helena, , nbc affiliate kulr-tv in billings) $18 million. sale completed on november 29.


ktmf-ld history

on january 6, 1992, fcc granted original construction permit ctn low-power station on channel 59 serve kalispell. station given callsign k59eq , after expired construction permit , couple of extensions of new permit, k59eq licesnsed on july 11, 1995. station changed calls ktmf-lp later in same year.


in february 2001, ctn sold station max media of montana part of same transaction ktmf. ktmf-lp granted permit move channel 42 in october 2003 , of august 2006, station had completed move, had not applied license operate on new channel.


on may 27, 2010, ktmf-lp granted construction permit flash-cut analog digital on channel 42. on january 4, 2013, station changed call sign ktmf-ld. ktmf-ld included in cowles 2013 purchase of max media s montana stations.
