vicki vale first appeared in batman #49 (oct. 1948) in 12-page story entitled, scoop of century! written bill finger art bob kane , lew schwartz.

often plot of story featuring vicki vale revolved around suspicions batman , bruce wayne same person. batman manage fool end of each story concluding not bruce wayne, suspicions re-emerge in later story.

vicki vale remained prominent character in batman stories batman #49, in 1948, until detective #320 in october 1963. in 1964, julius schwartz became editor of batman-related comics. schwartz dropped number of batman s silver age backing characters, including vicki vale, batwoman, bat-girl, bat-mite, , ace bat-hound.

1970s–1980s

vicki vale surfaced 13 years later, in batman family #11 (june 1977). married , known vicki vale powers. mentioned in batman family #16. after that, vanished 5 years.

she returned in february 1982 in batman #344. editor , writer apparently unaware of 1970s appearances, there no mention of marriage, , stated in footnote had not appeared since detective #320. had supposedly been in europe years, had returned gotham city. became bruce wayne s romantic interest again, earning wrath of catwoman in batman #355 (january 1983). had rivalry bruce s affections julia remarque, daughter of alfred pennyworth , mademoiselle marie. 1990s–2010

vicki disappeared comics after crisis on infinite earths, in frank miller s batman: year one, gossip reporter flirts judge during shoplifting trial. vicki returned in 1989 , 1990 in grant/breyfogle era coincide release of tim burton s batman. once again began romantic relationship bruce wayne, became upset on frequent absences. when hospitalized after attack ventriloquist, bruce struggles on whether or not tell batman, decides not to, leads end of relationship. bruce later regrets when descends brief depression following defeat @ hands of bane.
