in beginning of film, cole brought interrogation room , told sit in chair attached vertical rail on wall. sphere supported metal armature suspended directly in front of him, probing weaknesses inquisitors interrogate him. architect lebbeus woods filed lawsuit against universal in february 1996, claiming work neomechanical tower (upper) chamber used without permission. woods won lawsuit, requiring universal remove scenes, allowed inclusion in exchange high six-figure cash settlement universal.

after release of 0 theorem in 2013, claims made gilliam had meant part of trilogy. 2013 review guardian newspaper said; calling [the 0 theorem] third part of trilogy formed earlier dystopian satires brazil , twelve monkeys [sic] [...] ; however, gilliam interviewed alex suskind indiewire in late 2014, saying well, it’s funny, trilogy never ever said, it’s been repeated it’s true [laughs]. don’t know started once started never stopped .


tv adaptation

on august 26, 2013, entertainment weekly announced syfy developing 12 monkeys television series based on film. production began in november 2013. pilot written terry matalas , travis fickett, had written series terra nova. due series being labeled cast contingent , series did not move forward until roles of cole , goines cast. in april 2014, syfy green-lighted first season, consisted of 13 episodes, including pilot filmed in 2013. series premiered on january 16, 2015. on march 12, 2015, series renewed second season began airing in april 2016. on june 29, 2016, series renewed 10-episode third season, set premiere in 2017. in surprising move, entire third season aired on 3 consecutive nights. fourth , final season announced on march 16, 2017, expected debut in 2018.
