the rear of park s rebuilt grandstand.
the park opened on may 29, 1915. first game between sanford professionals , lewiston pilgrims (of lewiston, maine). game played in front of 1,300 fans.
in 1919, park hosted exhibition game between sanford professionals , boston red sox. game babe ruth s last game in red sox uniform. ruth hit three-run home run lead red sox come-from-behind 4-3 victory. ruth did not play in game red sox before being traded new york yankees red sox owner harry frazee.
1997 fire , rebuilding
in 1997, arsonist set fire park s grandstand , destroyed it. after debate in sanford whether or not rebuild park, grandstand rebuilt in 1998 , rededicated on july 16, 1999. grandstand rebuilt @ cost of on $1 million.
seating areas
most of park s 950-spectator capacity comes grandstand located directly behind home plate. grandstand consists entirely of chairbacked seats. park has section of metal bleacher seating located down first base line.
