concordia university s hall building houses leonard & bina ellen art gallery. samuel schecter, art enthusiast , businessman, set 2 funds in 1962 used purchase of canadian art @ sir george williams university , @ loyola college (montreal). when sir george williams university , loyola college merged under name concordia in 1974 respective art collections combined. collection of leonard & bina ellen gallery consists of 1700 paintings, sculptures, prints, photographs , videos, many of works 20th-century canadian artists.

the concordia university archives house official records of, or relating to, or people/activities connected concordia university , 2 founding institutions. collection consists of manuscripts, texts, photographs, audio-visual material , artifacts.

new buildings

the university has acquired historic grey nuns motherhouse near sir george williams campus, $18 million. built in 1871, alone double size of current downtown campus. 2007 2022, university begin occupying building in 4 separate phases. large property house faculty of fine arts , possibly mel hoppenheim school of cinema, , other departments. grey nuns building partially owned concordia (about 1/3 of building on saint-mathieu road), full control of building given concordia university in 2011. concordia residence life houses 250 students each year in grey nuns building. dorm rooms among largest in country, many of rooms have been transformed when section of grey nuns building occupied grey nuns. site designated national historic site of canada in 2011.

the engineering, computer science , visual arts integrated complex (ev building) @ saint catherine street , guy street opened in september 2005. building directly connected guy-concordia metro station , houses le gym, facility of athletics , recreation. across street, 100-year-old td canada trust building donated concordia in 2005 toronto-dominion bank. university had planned begin using space in 2006.

construction of new john molson school of business (jmsb) building located on corner of guy , de maisonneuve streets began in february 2007. quebec minister of education, recreation , sports, jean-marc fournier, on october 30, 2006, announced investment of $60 million towards construction of new building. minister made announcement during ceremony @ concordia. government s $60 million represents half of total construction costs. construction started on january 22, 2006, , building completed , opened in september 2009. 15-story building houses jmsb s 6,000 full , part-time students under same roof first time. departments of contemporary dance, theatre , music @ concordia have moved new jmsb building. connected ev building tunnel under guy street.

in april 2010, 120-metre tunnel completed underground connections of guy-concordia metro station henry f. hall building , j.w. mcconnell building.

quartier concordia

quartier concordia neighbourhood redevelopment project centred around concordia university s sir george williams campus in downtown montreal, quebec, canada. bordered sherbrooke street north, saint-mathieu street west, rené lévesque boulevard south , bishop street east, district designed green urban campus improve use , quality of public places , spaces, student life on campus , transportation.

as part of redesign, small norman bethune square has been redesigned , enlarged. sidewalks in area widened, additional trees.

as of september 2010, underground tunnel links university s henry f. hall , j.w. mcconnell buildings guy-concordia metro station. hallway completed in spring 2010. however, project create green space on mackay street has been put on hold.
